Southern Maryland Electric Coop (SMECO)

Challenge
SMECO purchased a CIS and an IVR system several years ago, and at the time the systems were implemented, they were already out of date and had very limited support with no ready upgrade path.

The current CIS was only two years old. Therefore, the risk associated with replacing it had to be minimal. The system had to have very extensive retail choice and capital credit functionality, and it had tight ties to the Outage Management System.

Solution
SMECO contracted with TMG to assist with its needs assessment and the acquisition of both systems in a very accelerated fashion. TMG researched those CIS solutions that included both retail choice and capital credit functionality, allowing SMECO to send the RFP to only qualified vendors.

Result
SMECO selected the SPL CC&B system and the Milsoft Prosche IVR system. The IVR system, with TMG providing QA oversight, was installed in June 2005. The CIS system implementation was completed successfully in February 2007.
