Challenge
Kansas City Power & Light (KCP&L) installed its CIS in 1998
without the capability of handling accounts which require complex
billing. Accountability requirements from the Sarbanes Oxley Act
further complicated matters.
Solutions
TMG assisted KCP&L in issuing a Request for Proposal for a Complex
Billing Engine to augment its CIS. TMG reviewed the RFI which had
previously been issued by KCP&L along with all the responses,
and worked closely with KCP&L to develop a comprehensive RFP
defining KCP&L’s requirements. The goal of a new Complex
Billing Engine was specifically to handle the complexities of billing
customers under special rates, special contracts, and special services,
and to eliminate the manual processes that was in place.
Results
The RFP was issued in September 2004 to 5 vendors. KCP&L’s
goal was to evaluate the proposals and select 2-3 vendors to invite
in for detailed demonstration of their systems prior to making its
selection. A change in management at KCP&L resulted in a hold
on this project. Management's new direction was to evaluate the
feasibility of upgrading its SPL CISPlus system to the new Oracle
CC&B system for all its CIS needs.
