Honolulu Board of Water Supply
Challenge
The CIS system was seven years old and in the declining stage of
its life cycle. Some aspects of the application are no longer supported
and have increased the risk of HBWS staying on the current application.
While the CIS application meets a significant amount of the user
communities core needs there are several high priority needs that
are difficult to meet with the current CAS application.
Solution
The Business Case Study recommended the replacement of the current
CIS. The main considerations for replacing CIS were (1) the system
continues to age with diminishing product support, (2) the system’s
inflexibility and very manual process create several inefficiencies
impacting HBWS daily procedures and its customers, (3) the interface
design between the major applications interfacing to CIS (Maximo,
GIS,AMR, JDE, etc.) will have to be redesigned to maximize the functionality
of those systems, (4) future in-house support of the current CIS
application should be considered with the potential of retirement
of the current support staff.
Result
HBWS budgeted to start a replacement effort. The scheduled start
date to update the recommendation and begin a selection effort was
mid-2006.
